Author Interview
We had the privilege of asking Sarah a few questions about writing. Here's what she had to say:
If you could be a
shifter what would you be and what would your partner be?
I would be a cheetah. I was obsessed with them as a kid and
they are pretty fascinating animals. Plus, I feel like you don’t see a lot of
big cat shifters other than like panthers. Plus, it would make traveling longer
distances a little less terrible (what with the bursts of speed and all). As
for my partner, he’d probably be something like a bat. He’d get to contort
himself into weird positions and be awake at night (which honestly, isn’t that
different from right now).
What prompted you to
write this book or series?
For a while, I’d wanted to try co-writing and luckily
enough, my good friend Molly was down to try. We wrote a different book
(alternate history with vampires) but realized we felt it didn’t quite fit the
Fated Mates parameters. So, we figured, shifters were popular and we could try
our hand at it. But, we didn’t want to do the usual wolves or bears or things
like that. We literally wrote two of the three books in this series without
really ever meeting any wolves. We’re both a little social justice-motivated
and for whatever reason, we liked the idea of shifters being hunted in the
future and getting to deal with those sort of themes of inequality and prejudice
and how you can combat that.
What’s next on your
project list?
Well, I’m literally about to have a baby, so I don’t know
how much free time I’ll have to write. But, if the baby cooperates, I am hoping
to write book 2 in an adult urban fantasy series. I also have a cozy mystery
trilogy coming out in August 2019 so do check those out!
Note:
Sarah is co-authoring Captivity with Author Molly Zenk. Here is more about their contribution to the Fated Mates boxed set.About the Book
In a future that holds shifters captive, what will they risk to break free?
Lorelei, a siren, has spent the last three years searching for the man she loved after he was abducted in front of her. When the bounty for an escaped phoenix crosses her desk at the Phoenix Location Agency, she expects a typical bag and tag. Instead, she discovers the target, Aiden, is none other than her lost love.
Aiden has no memory of the sultry siren who insists they were once in love. Rising from the ashes comes with a price— he’s a new person, with no memories of his former lives. After years of being kept in bird form to harvest his healing phoenix tears, Aiden is not the man Lorelei knew.
When both are taken in by the Magical Creature Underground, reconciliation seems possible. But Aiden’s captivity comes with a dire consequence: a deadly poison is working its way toward his heart. The only known cure is a long shot at best. Can Aiden and Lorelei reclaim their stolen past before the clock runs out?
